Profile
Bristol’s free shop has existed in several incarnations and spaces over the years.
⏰️WHEN: Currently we set up a few tables filled with clothes, shoes, books, toys and more on Turbo Island on Saturdays. The OFFICIAL times are 1-4pm but keep an eye on our story as there you will see weekly updates letting you know if the times are a bit different or if we have to cancel for any reason.
🎁DONATIONS: anyone can take anything they want. We do not means test or judge. There is no limit as to how much you can take. We accept donations but they are by no means required. You are also welcome to bring donations of items.
❤️WHY?? We value the importance of self sufficient community projects. We know that we need to take care of and support each other. We believe in mutual aid and reject capitalism in theory and practice the best that we can. In a world rampant with waste, overconsumption and growing lack of community, it is up to all of us to reuse, share and love.
Message us for any questions or if you’d like to join forces with us in any capacity. For example, we are happy to collect and distribute unsold local food that would otherwise go to waste.
“I find so much more joy in voluntary, unpaid, self regulated, non hierarchical, community based labour. I wish we could all participate in labour according to ability and willingness, for ourselves and each other, with no capital involved. Imagine if we all participated in community gardens, free shops, mutual care, mutual teaching, mutual aid rather than suffer daily working for the higher classes, giving them our all and damaging our bodies just to receive lesser reward while they collect the profit from our damaged mental and physical health, damaged social relations etc…
General society is quick to label those who dont want to or CANT work (for physical or mental reasons) as lazy when I believe most people are happy to complete all sorts of labour, according to ability, when under the positive conditions outlined above.
Always remember you owe your boss nothing more than what you are paid for. No free overtime, no submission to guilt trips or threats. Wages and work positions do not determine worth and you will always have your autonomy. Your body and mind hold priority over a bosses ego.”
